Middletown’s Uptown String Band Wows at Mummers Parade: A Sinfully Sweet Performance
The Middletown Township-based Uptown String Band impressed at the famous Philadelphia Mummers Parade held on New Year’s Day with a candy-themed spectacle, according to a staff report from Levittown Now.
The popular band performed its “Sinfully Sweet Twisted Treats” theme and secured sixth place in the parade. As a bonus, the band’s captain, Kade Redcliffe, took first place in his category.
In addition to larger-than-life lollipops, the performance featured a variety of candy-themed set pieces, outfits, and props.
Redcliffe noted that the practice and hard work that went into the performance were responsible for the band’s success.
“We knew what we were doing,” he said.
The Uptown String Band, which operates out of the Parkland Fire Company station, is the only participating string band that is based in Bucks County.
A common sight at local parades and events, the band has a rich history that dates back to 1937.
“Our goal is simple – to share the mummers experience, one of Philadelphia’s most unique and storied traditions, through personalized performances for individuals, companies, and any town’s event looking for a one-of-a-kind affair,” said the band on its website.
