How Rockette Taylor Shimko Balances Life in Yardley with the Dazzle of Radio City Music Hall
In 2010, at 18 years old, Yardley’s Taylor Shimko took a bold step skipping class at Ewing High School to audition for the iconic Rockettes, writes Bedatri D. Choudhury for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Today, she is a vital part of the company renowned for its breathtaking “Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes.”
Raised in an environment where dance was a part of everyday life, Shimko’s father owned a restaurant adjacent to a dance school in Holland.
As a ‘swing’ dancer at Radio City Music Hall in New York, she is trained to step in for any performer at a moment’s notice, requiring her to memorize all routines thoroughly.
Shimko’s day begins early, traveling from Trenton to New York. Her dedication is evident in her rigorous warm-up routine, performed in her signature LaDuca Can Can Boots.
The backstage at Radio City Music Hall is a whirlwind of activity, with dancers changing costumes in less than 78 seconds.
Offstage, Shimko enjoys a quieter life in Yardley, with her husband and dogs. As the Christmas Spectacular season wraps up on January 4, Shimko, also a real estate agent, looks forward to a well-deserved vacation and family time.
