Chantal van Dongeren, a senior at Central Bucks East, is a standout athlete in soccer and basketball, writes Melissa Hanejko for the Bucks County Courier Times.  

Van Dongeren’s defensive prowess has been instrumental in leading the Patriots to impressive performances in both soccer and basketball. 

 In soccer, she played a key role in securing the district quarterfinals and a state playoff berth. Meanwhile, her contribution to the basketball team has helped them off to a strong 6-1 start.  

Off the field and court, van Dongeren switches gears to her role as editor-in-chief at her student newspaper.  

 She has a keen interest in spotlighting girls’ sports, aiming to balance the coverage that often favors boys’ teams. 

Academically inclined, van Dongeren prioritizes her studies, planning to major in biological engineering, inspired by her mother and grandmother, both pioneers in their respective STEM fields.  

Despite offers to continue her soccer career at the college level, she remains focused on finding an institution that meets her academic aspirations. 

Yet, she ensures to make time for family, cherishing moments like exploring Fonthill Castle with her grandmother.
