Amelia Honer recently won the Big West Freshman of the Year back in May.

A former Council Rock High School North student has been receiving a lot of attention for her skills on the tennis court as she plays out West. Don Leypoldt wrote about the tennis star for the Bucks County Herald.

Amelia Honer, a Newtown native, has been scoring big since she began playing with the Gauchos at UC Santa Barbara out in California. Back in May, she won the Big West Freshman of the Year. She also earned a spot on the Big West singles second team.

“College tennis was a big adjustment from playing junior tennis. I definitely struggled in the fall,” Honer said.

Honer began her tennis career at Council Rock North, where she played for the high school’s team. Before this, she started playing tennis around the age of 7. A sports fan through and through, Honer also played soccer as a child, and is currently trying her hand at golf.

Currently a global studies major at the California college, Honer is keeping her grades up as she progresses through the sport.
