Bensalem resident and Vietnam veteran Alan Micklin, 83, is leading a campaign to ensure the proper display of the POW/MIA flag, a symbol of remembrance for those classified as Prisoners of War, Missing in Action, or unaccounted for since World War II, writes Lynette Hazleton for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Despite the enactment of federal and state laws mandating the flag’s display on public grounds, Micklin is concerned over what he sees as a lack of compliance.

Micklin’s initiative, which he began in November 2022, stems from his own experiences as a Vietnam veteran and the personal losses he suffered during the war.

However, challenges remain, especially in securing the flag’s display at key federal buildings in Philadelphia

He argues that failing to display the POW/MIA flag dishonors the memory and service of those who never returned home. Micklin has a long history of community service, particularly in support of veteran-related causes.

Throughout the last year, Micklin’s efforts have gained traction in Bucks County, with organizations like the Doylestown Boy Scouts of America and the Bensalem township office supporting the cause.
