Bucks County coach and William Tennent alumnus Tim Chiarolanza does not chalk up overcoming his one percent chance of survival to a miracle, writes Mike Sielski for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Years after graduating from Lycoming College, Tim landed his dream job at his alma mater as the strength and conditioning coach.

Two months into his position, his dog Finn, ran into oncoming traffic on campus.

Tim ran after him and collided with a moving car. The collision launched him 10 to 15 feet in the air, hitting the side of a park pickup truck.

That’s when nearby students sprang into action, diverting cars and calling paramedics.

He suffered countless injuries, including a brain injury.

Tim stayed at UPMC Williamsport before airlifting to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville where the neurologist told both his wife and father that he had a one percent chance of survival.

However, his family did not give up, and after seven weeks, he returned home on January 28, 2022.

Since his accident, Tim has been delivering lectures at Lycoming and Geisinger about his post-trauma perspective.

I’m not a miracle,” he said, “…I was in a fight for my life, and I survived because of everything I had done up to that point.”
