Temple University has one of the largest campuses in Pennsylvania, but it is far off from the largest. Instead, it's tie with another.

Stacker has reviewed data from Niche to put together a list of the 10 best public colleges in Pennsylvania, and Temple University ranks second in the state.

The most important component it looks at is academic quality.

More specifically, this includes the quality of professors, the college’s acceptance and graduation rates, and how much they spend on research.

The next quality is value, which includes the average cost students pay after financial aid is factored in, the average loan amount students take out each year, and metrics about graduates’ earnings and ability to repay student debt.

Other factors include diversity of campus, quality of student life, campus housing and food options, and data about aspects of the surrounding community, which includes crime rates and rent prices.

Temple University has an acceptance rate of 72%; a net price of $23,224; and an SAT range of 1010-1230.

Temple, which ranked 86th nationally, trails only Penn State University, which ranked 37th nationally.

Penn State was heavily featured in this top 10 list, with Penn State Fayette, Penn State York, Penn State Scranton, Penn State Mont Alto, Penn State Erie, Penn State Hazelton, and Penn State Berks all placing.
