Kintnersville’s Haycock Camp Ministries Pursues Major Expansion, Some Neighbors Push Back
In Kintnersville, the tranquil landscape of the Upper Bucks Christian Camp at Haycock Camp Ministries is set to transform drastically, writes Charles Malinchak for The Morning Call.
Founded in 1963, this 184-acre campsite has been a bastion of a bucolic environment, but recent developments, including a shooting range, have made the camp noisier, according to some neighbors.
The camp is embarking on an ambitious 35-year expansion plan. This extensive development will significantly enhance the camp’s facilities over the next three and a half decades.
However, this expansion requires a conditional use permit from Springfield Township to extend into Haycock Township.
Some local residents, however, are pushing back. They’ve formed a group, “Concerned Neighbors,” and have submitted a petition with 150 signatures to township officials, arguing that the camp’s growth is incongruent with the area’s character.
Opponents of the project express concerns over the associated noise from the nearby shooting range, increased weekday traffic, and potential issues with the septic system.
The expansion aims to triple the number of people served, targeting youth groups and the local community, with an estimated annual capacity of 120-140 campers.
