Chobani, the Greek yogurt and oat milk maker, has acquired Philadelphia-based La Colombe, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The $900 million deal comes eight years after its founder became a majority stakeholder in the coffee brand.

“We’ve already made an investment in the coffee category with our creamers and are excited about bringing La Colombe into the Chobani family, and offering the delicious, high-quality cold brew and ready-to-drink craftsmanship of La Colombe to a next generation of consumers, powered by a strong distribution partner in KDP,” Hamdi Ulukaya, founder and CEO of Chobani, said.

La Colombe, which established itself as one of the most popular Philadelphia coffee roasters, was founded by Todd Carmichael and J.P. Iberti.

The first operation was opened in Rittenhouse Square in 1994.

Today, La Colombe has 32 cafes across 7 U.S. cities, selling its products in cafes, hotels, restaurants, and retailers around the world.

Following the Chobani acquisition, La Colombe will continue to operate as an independent brand within the Chobani family to maintain its identity.

Chobani plans to “enhance La Colombe’s procurement practices, deliver meaningful cost synergies, and elevate its overall operational performance,” according to a news release.
