Newtown resident Dhruv Patel, the new owner of Greenstraw, plans on converting the North Sycamore Street business from a smoothie shop into a plant-based vegan cafe, writes Jeff Werner for The Patch.

The former long-time customer aims to bring more healthy vegetarian options to both Newtown and the entire East Coast.

“Bringing something like this to my hometown is very fulfilling,” said Patel. “And for everything the community has given me for the last 20 years, to give something back like this is a treat.”

Patel bought the business from Kelly Anne Troy, who founded Greenstraw Smoothies 11 years ago.

“When I heard they were selling I jumped at the opportunity because to have something like this in my hometown that aligns with the lifestyle I’m trying to live is a dream come true,” said Patel.

The menu at Greenstraw includes up to 20 different smoothies and organic cold press juices, as well as playa bowls, oatmeal, soups, and much more.

The first thing Patel plans to add is specialty coffees. He is also looking at “veganizing” the current menu and adding some hot items.
