Doylestown Borough is set to expand its network of bike lanes, bolstered by the overwhelming positive feedback from the temporary bike lanes installed this fall, writes Ed Doyle for TapintoDoylestown.

In September, “pop-up” bike lanes were introduced on Doyle Street from Broad Street to Harvey Avenue.

This strategic location links the newly finished Broad Commons Park with another park and Doyle Elementary School

Funded by TMA Bucks and supported by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, the project aimed to assess community response to bike lanes.

According to a TMA survey, an astounding 98 percent of Doylestown residents who participated expressed a desire to make these lanes permanent.

The Veterans Lane bike lanes will emerge in an area experiencing significant development, such as the construction of a 200-plus-unit apartment building and nearly 100 units of mixed housing.

While formal bike lanes are not yet planned for North Broad Street, borough manager John Davis noted its wide shoulders could accommodate bike traffic.

Davis also mentioned upcoming changes to North Broad Street, including a new traffic light at Atkinson Drive, aiming to enhance pedestrian and cyclist safety.

The borough has PennDOT approval for bike lanes on State Street, from near Chapman Park to Burpee Park and Our Lady of Mount Caramel School, to be implemented post-resurfacing.
