The Central Bucks School District is actively seeking input from the community as it embarks on the search for a new superintendent.

Democrats swept the Pennridge and Central Bucks school boards in Tuesday’s closely watched election, signaling a new phase of education policy, writes Dana Goldstein for The New York Times.

This is indicative of a larger Democratic upset nationwide. The educator’s union American Federation of Teachers said that 80 percent of its preferred candidates won among the 250 state and school board races it tracked.

In Pennridge School District, the previous Republican majority school board vied for control over the social studies curriculum, library book content, and transgender students’ participation in sports, as well as access to their preferred bathrooms.

Similar debates between Democrats and Republicans regarding LGBTQ issues are playing out in Central Bucks School District.

This election, Democrats swept the school boards, winning five seats in Pennridge School District and five for the Central Bucks school board.

As Bucks County is a key region in a swing state, this heavily watched race could indicate what’s to come for next year’s general election.
