Just in time for Halloween, a new book tells the story of one of Bucks County’s most well-known (and possibly haunted) covered bridges.

“Cry Baby Bridge: A Collection of Utter Speculation” was published today by Speculation Publications. The book delves into the haunted history of the Van Sandt Covered Bridge, better known to the public as “Cry Baby Bridge”.

Edited by LCW Allingham, River Eno, and Susan Tulio, the book contains stories from Ray Daley, Ef Deal, William J. Donahue, River Eno, Derek Heath, Jean Jentilet, Dori Lumpkin, Jeff Provine, Brent Salish, and Cat Voleur.

Many of the stories pertain to the local lore and legends surrounding the New Hope bridge and other bridges like it throughout the county; the most well-known one is where the bridge got its nickname, that, late at night, visitors can hear the cries of an infant that allegedly died in the river that the bridge is built over.

“If you venture here at the right time of year, on the right kind of night, you might hear a baby crying in the wind,” a description of the book reads. “You might see some things you didn’t believe were real.”
