In the aftermath of a recent vehicular accident with a Morrisville police officer, a local group is reminding residents of an important safety law.

Recently, Corporal Bill Smith of the Morrisville Borough Police Department was injured when his vehicle was rear-ended while helping a disabled driver. He has since been released from the hospital.

In response to the incident, the Penndel Police Benevolent Association, a group consisting of ten local police officers looking to keep the community safe, has released a reminder of Pennsylvania’s “Move Over Law”, made to keep local law enforcement and safety officials, as well as all drivers, safe during roadside emergencies.

“Please make sure that you move over if you see fire, EMS or police vehicles on the side of the road,” the association said online.

“Our thoughts are with the officer for a speedy recovery.”

The law in place states that drivers approaching an emergency response area must safely merge into a lane further away from the response area. If this is not possible, drivers must slow down to at least 20 miles per hour.

Learn more about this important safety law at the Penndel Police Benevolent Association.
