The race will be held this Sunday.

An upcoming race in Bucks County will be held to remember the local residents who lost their lives in the country’s worst tragedy.

The Garden of Reflection, located at 1950 Woodside Road in Yardley, will be hosting a 5k race on Sept. 10 to commemorate those lost in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. 18 residents of the county lost their lives in the attacks.

“The 5K Run/Walk raises money for the endowment to preserve the memorial for future generations,” organizers said online. “Thanks to our generous sponsors and participants, this race has raised over $200,000 toward this effort over the past 20 years.”

The next day, Lower Makefield Township will be honoring the memory of the Bucks County residents who lost their lives on that fateful day. A ceremony, which will be held at 8:30 AM on the day of the anniversary, will see the names of each resident read aloud, along with a moment of silence being given in their honor.

Among those lost on that day were Victor Saracini, a resident of Lower Makefield and one of the pilots on United Flight 175, which hit the World Trade Center, and Joshua Reiss, whose mother, Judi Reiss, has worked tirelessly to keep her son’s memory alive. Saracini’s widow, Ellen, has worked to pass legislature that would ensure further safety precautions to protect pilots and passengers.
