The Bucks-Mont Astronomical Association, headquartered at 411 Susquehanna Road in Ambler, will be hosting a “Perseid Meteor Watch” at Nockamixon State Park in Quakertown on Aug. 12 at 8 PM. The event will officially take place at the Tohickon Boat Launch, where the organization regularly hosts star-gazing events.

Prior to it getting dark, the organization will be presenting an information program focusing on both the meteor shower and upcoming solar eclipses that will take place this October, as well as April of next year.

“All you need to bring to this event is comfortable lawn chairs or chaise lounges,” event organizers said online.

“Binoculars can be fun to scan the skies with, but you’ll probably see more meteors just with your eyes. It usually cools off by the lake after sunset, so bringing a light jacket or blanket is advised. Also, don’t forget the ‘skeeter’ spray!”

For all those who want to enjoy the great outdoors of Bucks County even more than they usually do, this event is the perfect opportunity to see a side of the area most don’t bother to look up at.
