Thrift stores in Bucks County are using the resurgence in interest fueled by various social media sites to remind shoppers that they are aiding good causes when they go thrifting, writes Marion Callahan for the Philly Burbs.

Doylestown’s In Full Swing has been welcoming new shoppers with open arms recently, a lot of whom are coming following Instagram posts about hard to find items.

“Instagram has opened a whole new world for us,” said assistant manager Sharon Unruh.

The Doylestown store, along with other local thrift stores, like NOVA in Perkasie and Worthwhile in Plumsteadville, are offering special sales this week as they celebrate National Thrift Shop Day on Aug. 17.

They are also bringing attention to the perks of thrifting, which helps fill the budgets of dozens of local charitable organizations – including those that help the homeless and offer shelter and support for victims of human trafficking.

NOVA employee and volunteer Denise Held welcomes the annual day because it “gives us the ability to showcase our mission and let people know that our store supports, counsels, and empowers victims of crime.”
