Several artifacts from Bucks County’s past have brought to light an old business that was once a mainstay in a popular town.

The Yardley Historical Association, located at 46 West Afton Avenue in Yardley, recently posted a picture and an article from 1924 about the Girton Meat Market, which once stood on South Main Street.

The building it once did business out of is now used by both the La La Lobster restaurant and the Yardley Distillery.

“The meat market of G. S. Girton has long ago become the favorite shopping place for the women of Yardley, who for the past 61 years have been buying their meats here,” the article said.

According to the author of the article, Girton was born in Yardley and was a member of the Town Council.

The historical association operates out of the Old Library, which sits alongside the lake. The library “maintains a collection of primary and secondary materials, including maps, photographs, newspapers, letters, deeds, and ephemera, related to the Yardley area.”
