As the election for the county board of commissioners gets closer in Bucks County, the dispute over the support for the creation of new job openings for sheriff’s deputies continues to linger, writes Todd Shepherd for the Broad and Liberty.

A post on Twitter (now X) by the account representing the ticket for the two incumbent Democrats, Diane Marseglia and Bob Harvie, made a brief mention of school resource officers.

It stated that the two commissioners “provided $1 million in additional funding for law enforcement countywide. We will always keep Bucks County safe & politics will never get in the way.”

In a video that accompanies the post, Marseglia is seen at a meeting of the county commissioners commenting that “we are the salary board,” gesturing at the commissioners.

“Salary board did make a recommendation back in November for sheriff deputies,” she added.

However, Republicans are emphasizing that Marseglia and Harvie originally voted against the new positions and were defeated by a three-person Republican coalition.

Additionally, Sheriff Fred Harran, a Republican, claims that the money required for the new deputies was not made available until July and that the issue had to be nudged along.
