In today’s digital age, major job platforms are inundated with applications, making it challenging for job seekers to stand out, writes Danielle Abril for The Washington Post. These platforms use AI to sift through the vast number of applications, and some may not make the cut.

Here are ways job seekers can get their applications noticed by AI

Emphasize skills

The skills section has become pivotal, especially on platforms like LinkedIn. With the skills-matching filter, recruiters can easily identify candidates whose skills align with job requirements. LinkedIn allows users to highlight up to five top skills in their profiles.

Prioritize keyword optimization

AI and human recruiters often rely on specific keywords to filter candidates. By analyzing multiple job listings in your field and identifying common keywords, you can optimize your profile to be more discoverable. However, it’s essential to ensure that these keywords genuinely represent your skills and experience.

Keep your resume simple

The art of résumé writing remains crucial. Simple, clear, and error-free résumés are preferred. AI systems struggle with complex designs or formats, leading to missed opportunities for job seekers.

Consider networking

Beyond AI, human connections remain invaluable. Engaging directly with potential employers or making connections on these platforms can significantly enhance your chances. A simple conversation can often make a difference, highlighting your profile amidst the sea of applications.

The intersection of AI and job hunting has revolutionized the recruitment process. For job seekers, understanding and adapting to this new landscape is crucial.
