A museum and a bookstore in Bucks County will be working together to host a famous novelist who resides just outside the area.

The African American Museum of Bucks County, headquartered in Langhorne, and Commonplace Reader, located at 49 South Main Street in Yardley, will be hosting virtual book club with author James McBride.

The author, who resides in Lambertville, New Jersey, will be discussing his novel “Deacon King Kong”, published in 2020, with attendees on July 13 at 7 PM over Zoom.

In recent years, McBride garnered national attention for his book “The Good Lord Bird”, first published in 2013, which tells the story of abolitionist John Brown. The book was adapted into a miniseries by Showtime in 2020, with actor Ethan Hawke portraying Brown. Another book on the subject, “Kill ‘Em and Leave: Searching for James Brown and the American Soul”, was published in 2016.

His other works include “The Color of Water: A Black Man’s Tribute to His White Mother” (1995), “Miracle at St. Anna” (2002), “Song Yet Sung” (2008), and “Five-Carat Soul” (2017).
