The new restaurant would be centrally located in Newtown.

The Capital Grille, which is best known for its expertly prepared steaks, has received approval from the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors to open an upscale steakhouse and restaurant in the former Pier 1 Imports store in the Village at Newtown shopping center, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.

The 8,500-square-foot space will be turned into a 236-seat high-end restaurant. The supervisors also approved the inter-municipal transfer of a liquor license for the Capital Grille from Warrington to Newtown.

“Capital Grille is a feather in our cap,” said Supervisor Elen Snyder. “No, I’m not fond of more liquor licenses, but with the Capital Grille comes a liquor license. There’s no doubt about it. I see it as a positive for our township and something special.”

It will take between seven and eight months to secure the permits required and to convert the retail space into a restaurant, according to Drew Johnson, a brand-design manager with Darden Restaurants, the owner of the Capital Grille.

This gives the location an estimated opening date of late summer 2024.
