Asking for a raise can be high-pressure, but it’s necessary to step outside of your comfort zone if you want an income boost. Here are ways to ask your boss for a raise, according to Zippia.

Ask to Meet Your Boss Privately

Requesting a one-on-one boss is a surefire way of getting the ball rolling when it comes to a raise. If you work remotely, ask for a one-on-one Facetime call.

Act Like It’s a Job Interview

If you want a raise, you need to dress and act the part, almost like you would be going to a second job interview for the company.

Clarity

Open with a very direct statement and get straight to the point. Use tangible evidence that you’ve succeeded in your position and deserve a raise such as number-based data. Make sure you list all of your responsibilities and recent accomplishments in your final pitch.

Be Open to Answer Questions

Your boss will have follow-up questions about your specific accomplishments and projects, be prepared to be well-researched and have a lot of support. If your boss shoots you down, be ready to ask your own questions about what you can do in the future to get the raise you deserve.

Put it in Writing

Make sure that you have a letter requesting the exact number you asked for, so you have evidence in writing.

Make Sure to Say Thank You

Thank your boss for taking the time out of their day to hear you out. Even if you don’t get a raise, it shows that you’re professional and could leave a good impression on them.
