Eagle Scout Builds Disability-Accessible Batting Cages at Veterans Park in Newtown
Thanks to an ambitious project run by a local Eagle Scout, Veterans Park in Newtown Township now has a pair of brand new disability-accessible batting cages. Jeff Werner wrote about the project for the Newtown Patch.
Mahin Hardaway, an 11th grader at Council Rock High School North, was in charge of overseeing the planning and construction of the batting cages, which officially opened in March, as part of his Eagle Scout project.
The project lasted over two years and included the construction of two baseball/softball batting cages as well as a walkway that gives patrons with disabilities easy access to the cages.
According to Hardaway, he was inspired by his passion for baseball to partner with Council Rock Newtown Athletic Association, the Little League organization in Newtown, to take on this difficult project.
While he was faced with numerous challenges and setbacks during rhe past two years, he managed to complete the project through hard work and determination.
“I’m proud of what we accomplished and I hope that the batting cages will provide a valuable resource for the community for years to come,” said Mahin.
