A local American Legion Post recognized a Plumstead Township police officer with the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award. Ed Doyle wrote about the officer for TAP Into Doylestown.

The Albert R. Atkinson Jr. American Legion Post 210, located in Doylestown, presented the honor to Corp. Michael Johnson on March 6.

Johnson joined the Plumstead department in 2009. Prior to that, he had worked for the Doylestown police for nearly three decades.

He is well known in Plumstead for his constant and extensive community engagement efforts, such as “Coffee with a Cop” events, where police officers talk with the members of the community in a social setting.

Johnson is also among the organizers of the department’s Law Enforcement Night, another event designed to bring police officers and community members together.

In addition, he spearheads the annual food drive organized by the police department during the holidays. His efforts have helped feed hundreds of families in need.

Outside of work, Johnson, a Quakertown resident, has served on his town council for 15 years and he is a board of trustees of the St. Luke’s Hospital Quakertown and Upper Bucks campuses member.
