A Bucks County bakery made it big this week after supplying local residents with a treat that is synonymous with the Mardi Gras celebration.

Rilling’s Bucks County Bakery, located at 868 East Street Road in Warminster, made it big on Tuesday after they sold boxes and boxes of fastnachts, a donut confection that originates from the Pennsylvania Dutch. The treat is traditionally made for Shrove Tuesday, popularly known as Mardi Gras, which was celebrated earlier this week.

The purpose of the “Fat Tuesday” treat is thus: Mardi Gras is a celebration that takes place before Lent, when Christians around the world give up indulgent products and practices for their faith. However, the day before, many go all out on treats and sweets before the weeks of giving up pleasures.

Mardi Gras is popular around the country, but especially in New Orleans, where the Louisiana celebration have become synonymous with fun, partying, and debauchery. Next year, make fastnachts a part of your Mardi Gras celebration.
