A beloved actress, known for her various film and television roles, got her start in one of Bucks County’s most well-known playhouses. Hanna O’Reilly wrote about the actress’ early career for WFMZ-69.

Angela Lansbury, known for her roles in Murder, She Wrote, The Manchurian Candidate, and The Picture of Dorian Gray, got one of her first roles in plays at the Bucks County Playhouse, the famous waterfront theatre in New Hope.

“It’s a huge honor for us that she started her career here,” said Alexander Fraser, Producing Director & CEO of the Bucks County Playhouse. “The theater really became her passion.”

In 2013, Lansbury was inducted into the theatre’s hall of fame, with her name and a quote etched in a brick that now adorned the property.

Lansbury is one of many famous thespians to have graced the stage of the New Hope playhouse. Bela Lugosi, Dick Van Dyke, Tyne Daly, Grace Kelly, and Walter Matthau are some more heavy-hitters in Hollywood who came to Bucks County for performances.
