Bradford White Corp. — the manufacturer of water heaters and boilers — continues its ongoing initiative to promote the trades to the workforce of tomorrow. Under a charitable giving initiative titled Industry Forward, the Ambler-headquartered manufacturer promotes the wide variety of skilled labor opportunities available in the plumbing and HVAC industry that can lead to rewarding, long-term careers.

Historical Context

Trades-related careers, Bradford White pointed out, were a mainstay means of earning a living in the latter half of the 20th century.

The post-World War II economic and population booms led to high demand for men and women with industrial skills. As they succeeded, many leveled up professionally becoming managers, supervisors, and even owners of their commercial entities.

Oncoming Shortages

That generation now, however, is either retired or retiring.

A shortage of well-trained skilled tradespeople is already emerging nationwide — and shows no signs of abating. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a deficit of more than 100,000 new plumbing-heating-cooling professionals by 2028.

Filling the Void

The Industry Forward initiative by Bradford White is intended to raise awareness, spark career interest, and fill that impending void.

Bradford White has partnered with nonprofit organizations and technical schools to:

  • Educate individuals and families on the importance of the skilled trades and the role that industry professionals provide in the health, safety, sanitation, and infrastructure of their communities.
  • Help people succeed by supporting training and education programs that strengthen their skills and industry acumen leading to meaningful employment.
  • Promote plumbing, HVAC, manufacturing, and distribution careers within the industry through strategic program events and partnerships.

Initiative Update

Rebecca Owens, Bradford White Senior Communications Manager, commented on the program’s progress since its Mar. 2022 introduction.

“We have received a lot of positive feedback since the launch of this initiative,” she said. “It is important for companies, such as Bradford White, to invest in the future of our industry.

“There are so many people, young and old, who love working with their hands. For the future, my hope is that through our signature charitable giving program, Industry Forward, young children, teens and adults can begin to see the value of this essential industry, so we are prepared and ready in the years ahead. “As an industry-leading manufacturer of water heaters, boiler and storage tanks, Bradford White understands the critical need for men and women to join this industry and the opportunities available to gain meaningful employment for future success,” she concluded.
