Yardley-Makefield Fire Company Takes Home Awards for One of Their Old Trucks

The local fire company took home a major award for their old truck.

A Bucks County fire company recently won awards for one of their antique trucks, a throwback to the area’s early years of fire safety.

The Yardley-Makefield Fire Company took one of their Studebakers to the Relief Engine Co. Ahrens Fox 100th Anniversary in Moorestown, New Jersey over the weekend. Because of the quality of the vehicle and its antique history, the truck won the Presidents Award and the Contestants Favorite.

The event showcased similar vehicles overt he weekend at a free community event.

“Only five of these fire trucks were ever made – and one of them was purchased for our small town,” the vent’s website said. “Over the years the members of Relief Engine Company have restored it and kept it running.”

Bucks County is home to older model fire trucks such as the recently-celebrated Studebakers; many of them are on display at fire companies around the area. Back in August, a late Newtown firefighter’s casket was transported to a cemetery in a similarly antique vehicle, built back in 1923.
