Online retailer Wayfair is opening a flagship brick-and-mortar store with a rooftop bar at the King of Prussia Mall, writes Natalie Kostelni for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Wayfair is the destination for all things home: helping everyone, anywhere create a comfortable nest. The seller of furniture, bedding, and espresso machines will occupy 104,065 square feet of space that was vacated by JCPenney in 2017. In addition to the 14,000-square-foot rooftop deck and bar, Wayfair will also open a main-level café with both indoor and outdoor seating.

Wayfair had previously opened a pop-up store at King of Prussia three years ago.

King of Prussia Mall owner Simon Property Group considered several uses for the vacant JCPenney space. Ideas included a mixed-use development that would include office and multifamily spaces, a hotel, and an outdoor entertainment area.

Those plans, however, were put aside after push-back from the township.

In preparation for the arrival of the new tenant, renovations and other work will be made to the space. These include upgrades to the façade, along with the installation of new landscaping.

According to the township, the store is expected to open in 2023 or 2024.
