Whether you call it boba, bubble tea, or pearl milk tea, the drink is filled with delicious, iced milk tea with boba bubbles. The fully customizable treat has caught on locally, especially on the Main Line. Tori Bissonnette got the sweet assignment of covering the story for Main Line Today

The tasty drink hails from Taiwan, and the “bubbles” are small, edible “balls” made of starch. They add texture, flavor, and a little bit of fun as they’re slurped down.

Bucks County residents who find themselves in nearby Montgomery County during the warm summer season should know: The tea shops there brim with cool concoctions.

Surreal Creamery

At Surreal Creamery, creative bubble tea pop up in the signature Mason jars, a milkshake-bubble tea hybrid. The Surreal Creamery is located at 1039 West Lancaster Avenue, Bryn Mawr.

Mr. Wish

In 2006, Mr. Wish opened in Taichung, Taiwan, specializing in milk teas and fruit teas with fresh ingredients like pineapple and passionfruit. Mr. Wish is located at 8 East Lancaster Avenue, Ardmore.

Kung Fu Tea

Kung Fu Tea offers plentiful varieties of bubble tea, with a menu that also includes slushies. The drinks are fully customizable, enabling plenty of variety and several trips to experience the full range of summery possibilities. Kung Fu Tea’s closest location to Bucks County is at 1129 Old York Road Abington (another shop is in Ardmore).

Yi’s Boba

Family-owned Yi’s Boba offers hot and cold teas plus smoothies, snacks, and ice creams in a variety of fresh flavors.
