How Cycling Keeps This Souderton Bike Shop Owner Young Beyond His Years

By

The love of bikes has kept “Scooter,” a Souderton bike shop open for several decades, reports Tamala Edwards for 6abc.

Scott “Scooter” Landes opened Scooter’s Bike Shop in Souderton in 1975 after a life-changing cross-county ride gave him a lot of time to think about his future.

He has ridden bikes his whole life and wanted to share that feeling of joy with them, as well as the benefits of riding a bike. “Turning people on to the joys and benefits of cycling is a big part of getting into this business,” he said.

Plus, it’s a green activity, fun for those with the environment in mind.

His business in Souderton has evolved over the last decade, bringing Scooter to have in stock a bike for just about everybody. “We carry a full line of Specialized and Cannondale bicycles,” he said. “Everything from road bikes to kids’ bikes, to family bikes — hybrids.”

There’s even E-bikes now, which are electric bikes with pedal assist. “That’s probably the largest growing segment of the business right now,” explains Landes.

In the 45 years he’s had the store, he feels blessed that he’s able to do this for a living and in his hometown, as well as working with his son, Zach.
