Old Man Winter can play havoc with events. But for a Yardley couple whose wedding he crashed, the white-blanket landscape he brought added a magical touch. Kristen Schott accumulated the details of their icy I-Do’s for Philadelphia Magazine.
Sarah Fiorelli and Matthew Wood, both of Yardley, met online. Over the course of the next two years, they fell in love, got engaged (amid a sea of pink balloons), and set Jan. 29, 2022, wedding date.
Prior to the big day, however, weathercasters were predicting a “bombogenesis” winter snowstorm, a meteorological anomaly of accumulating show and hurricane winds.
“We had never even heard of a winter cyclone,” Fiorelli said.
The couple pressed ahead.
The Cathedral Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul site needed some snow clearing beforehand. And family and friends took extra care in transporting everyone there.
But the union came off without a hitch.
Afterward, the remaining snow lent a magical touch to their wedding portraits. And the guests, cheerily rosy-cheeked, traipsed through the drifts to the Logan Hotel reception.
“It was enchanting to see right after the storm had settled,” said the bride. “It was truly a winter-wonderland scene.”
