As part of its commitment to promote and provide recreation, sports, and activities for people of all ages in southern Chester County, Brandywine Valley Sports and Recreation (BVSR) recently launched a 35-and-older lacrosse league in Kennett Square. Richard Gaw fielded the story for the Chester County Press.

Kennett Area Women’s Lacrosse was formed in October and quickly attracted the attention of as many as 20 women who used to play lacrosse in school but had since hung up their sticks.

For each player, the 90-minute sessions represented a physical challenge but also a love letter to the sport they played while growing up.

“Every single practice was like a breath of fresh air that I hadn’t had in a very long time,” said Lauren Jones.

The idea for the league came from Kennett Square resident Catherine “Cat” Stenta. After realizing there were no opportunities for women over 35 to play lacrosse in the area, she asked on Facebook if anybody was interested in playing.

“The response was almost immediate,” she said.

She then contacted the BVSR, which was happy to help her get the league off the ground.
