Sparkling cyclists, ready for the Doylestown Holiday Lights Ride.

Every bike rider knows the importance of safety illumination for nighttime riding. But the annual Doylestown Holiday Lights Ride — back on the streets for 2021 after a pandemic pause — invites riders to kick those utilitarian headlights up a notch. The details were covered by Discover Doylestown.

The five-mile, self-guided ride is Sunday, Dec. 19 from 6-7 p.m.

Riders, who must be at least 18 years old, need to register (including a waiver signature) before pedaling off. They must also check in at the starting point, the parking lot of Central Bucks High School – West, by 5:45 p.m. that night.

The exact route through Doylestown will be emailed to participants after sign up.

Traditional bike lights are required, but augmenting them is highly encouraged, as is the wearing of costumes. Riders need only ensure they do not interfere with safe pedaling or steering.

The ride is free; however, in conjunction, Pedal 66 is soliciting donations for Doylestown native Michael Herman. He is embarking on a 2022 cross-country ride to benefit RADShare, a group that provides bike helmets to kids in need.

More on the 2021 Doylestown Holiday Lights Ride — including important safety information — is at Discover Doylestown.
