Employees at Quaint Oak Bancorp became so adept at working from home, the CEO made it permanent.

You’d think a financial institution named Quaint Oak Bancorp would be conducting business in a throwback model, with quill pens on parchment. But you’d be wrong. According to Jeff Blumenthal, Philadelphia Business Journal, it has its feet fully in the 21st Century.

Quaint Oak Bancorp is not only fully committed to the work-at-home model, it is finding itself on the vanguard of the trend.

Nearly all its 194 employees are remote.

The only onsite personnel are in three retail branches: Southampton, Allentown, and Philadelphia.

The other workers had office space within those locations (as well as a small Chalfont site). But they were hardly being used, given the amount of time the staff was on the road.

So, CEO Robert Strong put his trust in his workers to continue to get the job done and okayed the nomadic approach.

“We have been as productive, if not more, than we were when everyone was in the office,” Strong said. “There really was no reason to go back.”

Among other upsides, Quaint Oak has had an easier time in filling open positions. He has been able to cast a wider net for non-customer-facing employees who can work remotely. His crew of credit analysts, underwriters, risk managers, and auditors cover 14 different states.

More on this nontraditional approach to a traditional industry is at the Philadelphia Business Journal.
