When it comes to locations, Pennsylvanians can navigate spelling names that would stop most Americans in their tracks: Passyunk. Monongahela. Punxsutawney.

But a real toughie in the Keystone State is the proper spelling of sauerkraut.

Google Trends came up with a state-by-state list of words whose correct spellings were searched online. Pennsylvania’s turned out to be a hot dog’s best friend.

Besides sauerkraut, only New Mexico had another food-related query — bananas.

Virginians also had a culinary theme, but it was much broader. They struggled to spell delicious.

The most common “how to spell” search on Google was beautiful, which topped the list in five states, and four others needed help with pneumonia.

Other words Americans have difficulty spelling correctly include tomorrow, hallelujah and, to the chagrin of Julie Andrews fans worldwide, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

More on misspelled words in the U.S. is at The Washington Post.
