After navigating through 18 months of a pandemic, the Bucks County Country Gentlemen barbershop chorus is again performing for live audiences. Its comeback concert, November 13, has a pirate theme, as the singers set sail on a tuneful voyage on the “high Cs.”

Audience members will be required to meet state and CDC guidelines, which means masks and proof of COVID-19 vaccines.

In person tickets (available at the door, as supplies last) may be difficult to obtain, as the venue — Lenape Middle School auditorium in Doylestown — will be at half capacity.

For those unable to score a seat (or who prefer the virtual version), the performance will also be livestreamed.

The “plot” of the show involves a musical trip across various locations on a treasure map.

The Bucks County Country Gentlemen barbershop quartet is a 35–40-member volunteer organization that entertains throughout the area.

Its talent lies in closely aligned, multi-part harmonies sung a cappella, meaning without instrumental accompaniment. It relies heavily on singers’ accuracy in navigating distances between notes and overall harmonics.

The chorus’ director, Ritchie Lavene, has 40+ years’ experience with this unique style of singing. His vocal music career began when he sang as a child, and his devotion to the art has taken him across the country and around the world.
