The Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA-PA) has cited Warrington Township’s Lions Pride Park as a ‘great place’ in the Commonwealth.

The APA-PA annually honors places like this one, noting their value in community building and contributions to the public good.

Lions Pride Park joins 46 other statewide APA-PA Great Places, including the Schuylkill River Trail and Lehigh Parkway in Allentown. It was lauded in the “public spaces” category.

Great Places are characterized by their sustainable vision for the future. They serve as models for other communities to emulate. Sharing high-quality examples of successful planning efforts statewide, the organization believes, furthers its mission and vision.

Lions Pride Park’s 47-acres were developed through plenty of community involvement, including help from local students. The township and the Lion’s Club collaborated on the effort as well.

The unique, ADA-compliant space offers both traditional and nature-based recreational and educational opportunities for visitors of all ages and abilities. It holds an array of visual, audio, tactile, and sensory experiences. They include a beacon phone application to hear audio descriptions of points of interest. A music alcove also incorporates sound into the open space.

A township representative said, “Lions Pride Park has addressed the number-one issue identified by our community: provide a safe and fun place for everyone to play and relax.”
