An April feasibility study done for the Bucks County Planning Commission identified 11 options for giving residents in Newtown and Yardley expanded trail access. Peter Blanchard covered the proposals for the Newtown Patch.

Now that the Commission has brainstormed ideas, it is turning to potential users — cyclists, runners, and stroller-pushers — to guide them.

Public insight will help determine the best way forward with linkages along the Delaware and Lehigh Canal Trail. Intended connectors will open trail routes through Lower Makefield, Middletown, Newtown, and Upper Makefield Townships.

Planning commission members are asking stakeholders and the public to review and comment on its plans; it is collecting feedback online. The webpage also provides considerable background on the project, trail types, and a detailed map of each segment.

The comment period for the proposal closes July 23.

This study is made possible through financial assistance from the Environmental Stewardship and the Community Conservation Partnerships Program of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Bureau of Recreation and Conservation.

More information is at the Newtown Patch.
