Step inside the Butterfly Atrium at Bountiful Acres in Buckingham, and within seconds, something lands on your shoulder.
That’s the magic of this fan-favorite attraction, which gives visitors an up-close look at hundreds of butterflies at every stage of their life cycle, reports LeAnne Kayati for 6abc.
Tucked about a mile south of Peddler’s Village along Route 202, the atrium brings the growing world of butterfly gardening to the public. At any given time, between 100 and 200 butterflies representing 20 to 30 different varieties fill the space.
“We normally have between 100 and 200 butterflies in the atrium at all times, and we have anywhere between 20 and 30 varieties,” said Andy Eckhoff, Bountiful Acres General Manager.
Guests can watch the full arc of a butterfly’s early life, from the moment it breaks free of its chrysalis to its very first flight. Eckhoff explained that newly emerged butterflies need roughly 30 to 45 minutes for their wings to dry before they’re ready to take to the air.
For families, the atrium has become a highlight of any visit. New Hope resident Zack Noble described it as a place where children can have genuine, close-up encounters with butterflies while their parents browse plants and seasonal gardening finds.
As interest in butterfly gardening continues to grow, the free attraction offers a unique way for Bucks County residents of all ages to connect with nature.
