A butterfly garden at Brownsburg Park was recently dedicated to the victims of the flash flood that struck Upper Makefield in July 2023, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.
Friends and family members of the victims gathered with survivors, township officials and employees, and first responders for the ceremony.
Officials dedicated the Brownsburg Park Memorial Butterfly Garden in memory of Linda and Enzo DePiero of Newtown, Katie Seley and Mattie and Conrad Sheils of Charleston, S.C., Susan Barnhart of Titusville, N.J., and Yuko Love of Newtown.
The ceremony gave attendees the chance to reflect on the tragic event and honor the seven who lost their lives.
“The butterfly represents transformation, rebirth, hope, and endurance,” said the township in a social media post. “The flash flood transformed so many of us and we would like the garden to be a place of hope and healing to all who visit.”
Seasons Garden Center, with the assistance of the families, designed the garden. The Environmental Advisory Committee, the Public Works Department, the Parks and Recreation Board, and the Board of Supervisors also contributed to the project.
