Rocco’s Operator, Landlord Trade Lawsuits Over Newtown Restaurant’s Closure

The abrupt closure of Rocco’s at The Brick in Newtown Borough has resulted in lawsuits between the restaurant operator and the landlord.

The recent closure of Rocco’s at The Brick in Newtown has resulted in lawsuits between the landlord and the restaurant operator, writes Michele Haddon for the Bucks County Courier Times.

Rocco’s closed its doors in November, leading operator Marc Gelman to file a civil suit against property owners Verindar Kaur and her son, Chiranjiv Jouhal, who have since filed a counterclaim.

In the December lawsuit, Gelman alleged that Kaur interfered with the restaurant’s operations, neglected property maintenance issues, and revoked Rocco’s access to its liquor license.

He stated that Kaur abused her control over the liquor license, listed under her and her son’s business, Amaya LLC. It caused the restaurant to close abruptly by falsely claiming the license would expire, preventing Rocco’s from operating under it, and invalidating the lease and operating agreement.

“In August 2025, Kaur began improperly wielding Amaya’s liquor license as leverage against her partners and attempt to extract more money from Rocco’s for her other businesses,” stated the filing.

On March 20, Kaur filed a countersuit denying any role in the restaurant’s closure. She claimed Gelman and bookkeeper Dana Gray engaged in “self-dealing and misappropriation which resulted in Rocco’s downfall,” outlining allegations of fraud, deceit, and misuse of funds.
