Harvey and Maddy Rovinsky, the longtime owners of Bernie Robbins Jewelers in Newtown, have decided it is time to retire, writes Kyle Morris for Fox Business.

As part of their plans, the couple will transfer ownership of their Newtown business as well as two other locations – Villanova, and Somers Point, New Jersey – to employee ownership in the first quarter of 2024.

The transfer will take place after a retirement celebration that will position the owners to retire and hand over the popular chain to their employees debt-free.

“The people who have worked with us in day-to-day operations will now own it,” said Harvey. “Everything will stay the same because they know who we are.”

He added that the pair did have an opportunity to sell the business, but they did not find a buyer who would maintain the culture instituted by his father-in-law, the company’s founder.

His philosophy which has stayed with the business for nearly six decades was to “treat everyone who walks through its doors the way we want to be treated ourselves,” said Harvey. “And the people who take it over will continue with that philosophy and tradition.”
