A cobblestone path in Lahaska could soon lead straight to a national title.
Peddler’s Village is competing for the top spot in USA TODAY’s 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards for America’s Best Shopping Center, and it’s giving a Texas rival a run for its money, writes JD Mullane for Bucks County Courier Times.
The beloved Bucks County destination currently sits at No. 2 in the national online poll, trailing only La Cantera, an open-air shopping center in San Antonio, Texas.
Readers can cast one vote per day until polls close on June 1, with final rankings set to be announced June 10.
The recognition comes as no surprise to Bucks County residents. When Peddler’s Village opened in 1962, its founder deliberately rejected the conventional shopping mall formula.
Dubbed an “anti-shopping center,” the village boasts cobblestone walkways, gazebos, lush gardens, and colonial-style architecture that feel less like retail and more like a countryside stroll.
Today, roughly 60 shops, restaurants, and specialty businesses call the village home, drawing visitors from well beyond the region.
While the boutiques and eateries are the draw year-round, seasonal events, including the wildly popular Scarecrow Festival each fall, have helped cement Peddler’s Village as a Pennsylvania destination with genuinely national appeal.
The USA TODAY nod is the latest in a string of national accolades for the village. With voting still open, there’s still time for local fans to tip the scales.
