Addiction Impacts Entire Families. Be Part of the Conversation is Offering Free Support

A free peer-led recovery course is helping Bucks and Montgomery County families navigate addiction, healing, and support together.

For parents and guardians watching a loved one struggle with addiction, feeling helpless is often the hardest part.

The late-night phone calls. The constant anxiety. The fear that every conversation could turn into an argument or worse. Families across Montgomery County and Bucks County are dealing with those realities every day, often quietly and without support.

Be a Part of the Conversation wants to change that.

The Ardmore-based nonprofit is continuing to expand its free Family Recovery Course, a peer-led educational program designed specifically for parents and guardians whose child of any age has struggled with drugs or alcohol. The program is now accepting registrations for upcoming online sessions this spring and summer.

Unlike traditional addiction education programs, the Family Recovery Course is built around lived experience. Every instructor, volunteer, and support leader has personally navigated addiction within their own families and now supports others as they work through the same challenges.

The three-part course walks participants through the realities of addiction, how substance use impacts the entire family dynamic, and how families can begin building healthier paths forward together. Sessions remain intentionally small, with enrollment capped at 12 participants, allowing for more personal conversations and stronger peer support.

And perhaps most importantly for families already carrying emotional and financial stress: the program is completely free.

That access is made possible through partnerships with organizations, including the Bucks County Drug & Alcohol Commission and Montgomery County’s Department of Health & Human Services.

Upcoming online courses are on May 19 and June 11, with additional courses regularly added throughout the year.

The full schedule is available here.

Organizers say the ongoing structure is intentional, ensuring families can join when they are ready rather than feeling they missed a narrow window.

“The Family Recovery Course is a vital resource for families impacted by addiction,” said Michael Blanche, LCSW, clinical advisor at Be a Part of the Conversation. “There is tremendous therapeutic benefit when parents learn in a safe environment surrounded by others with shared experience.”

Families interested in learning more, registering for an upcoming course, or attending a community event, joining one of our online family groups (offered in-person and online), accessing additional materials, or supporting the organization’s mission can visit Be a Part of the Conversation.
