This Friday, a Middletown Township park will be renamed to honor the late Supervisor Anna Payne and her contributions to the community, writes Dino Ciliberti for Patch.
Constructed in 2022, the Cobalt Ridge Playground was the township’s first inclusive and accessible recreation spot for children of all ages to play.
Payne worked tirelessly to get the playground constructed in order to create a welcoming and supportive space for young community members.
The park features wheelchair-accessible equipment, interactive music features, adaptive swings, and sensory-friendly seating for children on the autism spectrum.
“I really can’t think of a more fitting tribute,” said Supervisor Mike Ksiazek. “It’s important that Anna’s legacy lives on, and this is something she would be proud of.”
According to the township, Payne lived with cystic fibrosis her whole life and battled stage four colon cancer for four years.
She was an advocate for those with rare illnesses and strove to create an inclusive community.
“Anna’s impact on this community will not be forgotten,” said Supervisors Chairwoman Bernadette Hannah. “This park stands as a reflection of her commitment to inclusion, compassion, and service to others.”
