Newtown native and Neshaminy High graduate Sanaa Hebron has set a new Penn Relays record, winning the college women’s 400-meter hurdles in 55.30 seconds, writes Jonathan Tannenwald for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Hebron, daughter of former Eagle Vaughn Hebron, hoped to simply get the meet record, and she was incredibly happy she exceeded her goal.
The University of Miami senior said the achievement was even more meaningful because it came in her home state.
“Being from Pa., I was really happy to come home and be around my people,” she said. “So I’m really excited to be able to get it done on this track.”
After playing for the Birds from 1993 to 1995 and then three seasons with the Denver Broncos, Hebron’s father still draws autograph requests to this day. Now, his daughter has built a legacy of her own on the iconic track in her hometown.
“I think this track means a lot — it’s really historical,” she said. “Every track person here grows up on this track, so it means a lot to be able to come back and see familiar faces.”
