Heartfelt Mission Behind Bensalem Coffee Shop Continues at New Jenkintown Location

Pot Heads Coffee House, founded by Faith Noga and Chris Watson in honor of their children, open new location to accompany Bensalem store.

When you stop by Pot Heads Coffee House in Bensalem, you’ll be welcomed by skeletal companions and playful spooky décor before picking up your daily dose of caffeine.

The coffee house was co-founded by Faith Noga and her brother-in-law, Chris Watson, and is inspired by the memories of Faith’s daughter, Mila, and Chris’s son, William.

Mila was diagnosed with epilepsy at age six and later navigated challenges with an eating disorder. During that time, she followed a vegan diet, and with some creative work in the kitchen, her family developed recipes that helped restore her weight.

Mila’s doctors were so impressed by their work that they encouraged Faith to consider opening a business.

Though her diet and weight had been restored, Mila continued to face medical challenges.

On Oct. 23, 2020, she experienced multiple seizures overnight and passed away after going into cardiac arrest.

Faith, who was working as a teacher at the time, later found herself driving past a storefront that struck her as the perfect home for a coffee shop. A longtime coffee lover, she remembered Mila often teasing her to cut back.

“She used to give me hell about it,” Faith said.

Faith partnered with Chris, whose son William had passed away in a drowning incident several years earlier, to build a space that honored both children’s lives.

The Bensalem shop takes inspiration Mila’s personality and her love for all things spooky. Its skeleton décor pays tribute to her imaginary friend, a skeleton named “Blah.”

Faith has also lined the walls with copies of Mila’s artwork, much of which is available for purchase. Proceeds support Paws for a Cause, a nonprofit that trains service dogs for individuals with disabilities, including epilepsy.

Mila had dreamed of becoming a service-animal trainer and even taught her own dog to assist during seizures when she was ten. Today, Faith and Chris continue supporting and promoting the organization in her honor.

Alongside its heartfelt mission, Pot Heads offers a delicious menu that takes inspiration from Mila as well, featuring items like her vegan banana chocolate chip muffins.

Guests can enjoy a variety of coffee beverages, from cold brews and cappuccinos to lattes and hot tea.

The café also offers breakfast favorites like French toast, breakfast bowls, and scones, along with lunch options including a chicken sandwich, chicken salad sandwich, grilled cheese, and a BLT.

Chris and Faith hired Maggie Smith to manage their Bensalem location a few years later, and eventually, conversations about expansion began.

Now, Pot Heads is opening a second location, co-owned by Maggie and Faith, in Jenkintown.

While the Bensalem café celebrates Mila’s spooky side, the Jenkintown shop highlights the more spiritual and metaphysical elements of her personality.

Its menu features customer favorites from the original location, with new additions on the horizon.

For Faith, the most meaningful part of building Pot Heads has been the connections formed with others. Whether speaking with customers who share similar experiences, finding solidarity with those navigating grief, or meeting individuals with health journeys like Mila’s, every conversation offers comfort.

Check out the coffee house at 3718 Bristol Pike in Bensalem and at 261 Old York Road in Jenkintown, and visit Pot Heads for more information.
