Jason Kelce’s Weakened Ankles Led to Golf Issues and an Unusual Solution

Jason Kelce tests out a pair of golf boots at the McCall Golf Club in Upper Darby.

Jason Kelce, a former Eagles center and Haverford resident, has been embracing golf since retiring from the NFL, but his 13-year career has left him with weak ankles that make wearing standard golf shoes a problem, writes James Shearman for Yahoo!Sports.

So with golf season just around the corner, he decided to move beyond traditional golf shoes and try a more unconventional choice.

“I don’t know that I’m cut out for just golf shoes,” said Kelce. “I think I need golf boots!”

Looking for a solution, he relied on Dom the Cobbler in South Philadelphia, a longtime fixture from his NFL career. When his go-to cleat model was discontinued, Dom located extra pairs from other locker rooms and restored their worn soles to make sure they were game-ready.

“If he can rebuild NFL cleats, he can put golf spikes on the bottom of a boot, right?” Kelce said.

The two modified nine pairs of boots, ranging from Timberlands to hiking boots and even wrestling boots. Kelce tested each pair at the McCall Golf Club in Upper Darby, with mixed but promising results: some failed, while others ended up working perfectly.
